LONG TIME

It's been a while since I last wrote and sometimes I wonder why. Is it because I have been very busy? or because I hate writing or because I wonder why I have a blog in the first place? Whatever the reason is I have decided to write this blog because of a book I recently stumbled across.

The name of this book is the Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. This book talks about success in a much more complex and interesting light. This book is not an how to book nor does it describe success just as a result of hardwork. This book describes success as a combination of opportunities and legacies that individuals are presented with as they go through life. These opportunities and legacies are your ethnicity, generation, socio-economic class, family and etc.

After reading this book, I find myself asking the same question, what is success? Through out the course of the book, the examples of success constantly presented are stories of individuals like Bill Gates, Joe Flom, Steve Jobs, the Beatles, and Bill Joy. I definitely agree that these people are successful but why are they described as such. Is it because they are rich, or because they dared to take on task that others considered impossible or because they have been defined successful by the society.

For me, the fact that I can get an A in a class is success or the fact that I have participated in research is success. Every one has a different definition for success and even though this book looks at a common definition the recipe is still the same.

First Blog

I am pretty new to the idea of blogging. In fact this is my first blog ever. You may wonder how did I start blogging, how did I come across this wonderful idea of blogging and what is the importance of blogging.

Well, I actually stumbled on blogging when a friend of mine told me he had a blog. I read through his blog and I found it pretty interesting. I see blogging as an avenue to share some of my thoughts with others and a way to take time off my hectic school life. Also I see a blog as a place where I can experiment with writing {which is not my greatest asset} and just go with the flow .

Anyways I haven't really decided on what I will be blogging about, how often I will be blogging but I am pretty excited about blogging.
